Dallas, TX -- The Pittsburgh Penguins have made it to the TFNHL Cup Finals for the first time in franchise history after defeating the Washington Capitals and becoming the Eastern Conference champion. They will now face the Dallas Stars in a best of seven series to determine the winner of the coveted TFNHL Cup.
The Cup has finally be reclaimed and was thoroughly washed and disinfected after St. Louis GM Hank Dyck attempted to wear it underneath his hockey equipment last week. Said an observer, "Let's just say there was plenty of room."
These two teams faced each other only once during the regular season, with the Penguins edging the Stars 3-2 in a tight contest.
This series promises to be tighter than a Sasha Baron Cohen outfit, with both teams notoriously stingy on scoring chances and goals against. J-S Giguere has been the story of the playoffs for Dallas, though, carrying the team on his back through the first 3 rounds with his stellar play.
In Pittsburgh, a resurgent Sidney Crosby leads a powerful offense that hopes to find some holes in Dallas' armour. Crosby came back to Pittsburgh in a mid-season trade that saw Pavel Datsyuk and highly-regarded youngster David Krejci head to Detroit. Big Joe Thornton was also acquired this season, along with powerplay specialist Mike Green. Those three players, Crosby in particular, have been key performers in the turnaround for Pittsburgh this season. Pittsburgh alum Mario Lemieux hopes Crosby gets consideration for the Conn Smythe trophy no matter how the series turns out, "So he can finally move the hell out of my basement! My wife's getting annoyed about all the boxes lying around upstairs still...".
