"Do we have a date and time yet for the draft?"
This is what started the thread. Can somebody just make the call?

Message board draft is not good. Chat room is best. Let me explain.
How can you allow time for a choice or know when you are up? We will have to constintlly refesh the page. Which is annoying.
Chat room is fast and direct for trading with the other guys present too.
For the date, how about the 5th of July? At say 1 PM eastern?

I can be there--that would be 12 noon central on Sunday for me. Who is going to be running the draft? Plus, forgive my age but I keep forgetting, what do I type to gain access? Is it Minnesota/

And who do we send our lists to in case we can't be there?

Shouldn't we give at least 24 hours if we actually want people to show up?

The chat room on the website does not allow anyone to connect. The only way to do the draft is on the message board. We have the entire summer to do the draft and I will be setting it up today or at the latest Sunday night. I will explain on how it works below... The entry draft will have a 24 hr. clock, which means that the 1st team picking has up to 24 hrs to make their selection (I believe it won't take that long). Once the 1st team selects their player, the 2nd team has 24 hrs to make their selection based on the time the team before them has made their selection. I don't see how we have to rush this as it is the summer and people are probably on vacation or busy to sit in front of a computer for 3-5 hrs to do 5 rounds of a draft. Minny...to reply to your post of when a date and time, I will announce that once I have finished setting up the draft. It may start Monday night if everything is a go.

Or, do the draft with one round a night on the message board. First round on Monday night, second round on Tuesday night right up through Friday. If you drag it out over the summer, active participation quickly disappears.

Suggestions.... 1) cut it to 12 hours. That should be enough time, you should know your pick is coming up. If a bunch of people go quickly so the pick sneaks up on you we could make an exception. 2) if it takes too long, do the last 2 rounds via list.

Perhaps somebody could register for a Meebo Room and get the ball rolling. We used one for the draft in another league and the chat room worked perfectly--knocked it out in three hours. If a technological meatball such as myself can master it, anyone can. www.meebo.com/rooms/

Personally, I think I'd prefer a draft via message board... it would make for a slower paced, more methodical draft. I agree with Commish... that we have plenty of time.
Free agency is usually shot-gun paced... trying to beat other GMs to the punch on the hottest players available, bidding wars, etc. Why not try a different approach to the draft?
